The volume is divided into three parts under the general title Catalogue de l’Exposition faite par la Chambre de Commerce de Saint-Étienne:

Ordre des contrées successivement parcourues par M. Hedde
-
萬絲華物解 Exposition des produits de l’industrie sérigène en Chine (the Chinese silk industry);

萬華貨物解 Exposition des produits divers de la Chine (a broader survey of Chinese products).
A detailed catalogue of more than one thousand objects and samples collected in China between 1843 and 1846. Isidore Hedde, a ribbon manufacturer from Saint-Étienne and Delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce, was appointed by the Chamber of Commerce of Saint-Étienne to represent the French silk industry. He formed part of the commercial mission dispatched to China under Louis-Philippe to re-establish and strengthen Franco-Chinese trade relations.
An important primary source for the study of nineteenth-century Sino-French commercial exchanges and the silk industry.
Spine slightly worn; light foxing throughout.
