"Allusions Littéraires", meaning "Literary Allusions", is a work compiled by Jesuit Father Corentin Pétillon, inspired by the classical Chinese text "Youxue Qiyuan" (幼学求源).
Encouraged by his mentor, Italian Jesuit Father Ange Zottoli (1826–1902) from Naples, Pétillon organized his years of Chinese language study notes into this work. He carefully consulted various editions of "Youxue Qiyuan", selecting appropriate couplet verses, explaining their metaphorical meanings, and translating them into French. The content is systematically arranged by Chinese radicals, making it both a linguistic and literary study.
The publication of this book also commemorates the 300th anniversary of Matteo Ricci (1552–1610) establishing a Jesuit mission in Nanjing in 1595.
