Extremely rare complete set of the Chinese New Testament (耶穌基利士督我主救者新遺詔書), translated by Robert Morrison, printed in Canton ca. 1815. This is the second edition of Morrison’s version, issued in a smaller format and comprising eight stitched volumes.

This edition corresponds exactly to the 1815 Canton New Testament described in the Historical Catalogue of the Printed Editions of Holy Scripture in the Library of the British and Foreign Bible Society (Vol. II, Part I), where it is noted as a reprint of Morrison’s translation in smaller type, divided into eight parts, and printed from woodblocks—features including the format and dimensions, that match the present set precisely.

Eight volumes in case. Vol. I lacking leaf 53, with no obvious signs of removal; as the pagination of leaves 五十二 and 五十三 is very similar, the absence likely results from a collation issue, a phenomenon not uncommon in Chinese thread-bound books. Vol. VII with a small loss affecting two characters; otherwise in very good condition.
