Six stitched volumes in printed orange paper boards, housed in a modern folder and case. Some restorations to the original covers.
This six-volume set offers a traditional method for learning Chinese character writing, compiled by Edmond Nordemann (b. 1869), a French educator and colonial official in Indochina. Born in Besançon, he arrived in Tonkin in 1888 and held several key educational posts, including head of the Quốc học trường (國學場) in Huế and Director of Education in Central Vietnam and Laos.
A prominent figure in Franco-Vietnamese educational reform, Nordemann was also a founder of the Hội Trí Tri (會致知) or the Société d’Enseignement Mutuel du Tonkin and received multiple honors, including the Đại Nam Dragon Order.
A rare and valuable work of early Vietnamese pedagogy and colonial-era language instruction.
