One of the early western accounts of Chinese medicine. Compiled by the French diplomat Claude-Philibert Dabry de Thiersant (1826–1898), who served in China from 1856 to 1871 (Tianjin, Zhoushan, Hankou, Shanghai, and Canton), the work draws on Chinese medical texts and direct observation.
With a large folding plate (spilt on one of the hinges & with clear tear to margin, but no loss) & occasional wood engravings on the letterpress.
