Shen Li Qi Meng (身理啟蒙) is part of Joseph Edkins’s series of Western-learning introductory texts (西學啓蒙十六種). Based on the work by the British physiologist Michael Foster, the work introduces fundamental concepts of modern physiology to Chinese readers, covering bodily structure, organ functions, and basic physiological processes in clear, accessible language. As one of the early physiological primers adapted for Chinese education, it played a notable role in the spread of Western medical knowledge in the late nineteenth century.
