This extremely rare military text was printed using wooden movable type by the Hubei Guard Army Camp, an institution within the Hubei New Army. No other copies are currently known. Designed as a military strategy reader for a modernized army.The Hubei New Army was established in Hubei by Zhang Zhidong, Governor-General of Huguang, in the late Qing period, and was organized along German and Japanese military models. The work reflects the transmission of modern military thought and training within late Qing provincial forces.

The cover is damaged, with approximately half missing. Some water staining present.
