This is the first alphabetically arranged dictionary of the Fuzhou (Foochow) dialect, compiled by American missionaries Baldwin and Stewart. Departing from the traditional fanqie system, it adopts a Romanized orthography based on the system of William Jones. The dictionary records 15 initials, 7 vowel phonemes, and detailed tone markings, offering valuable insight into the phonology of the Fuzhou dialect in the late 19th century.
