Wei Ji Xu Zhi is an introductory textbook on calculus compiled by John Fryer (傅蘭雅) for the Jiangnan Arsenal’s modern science curriculum. The text provides a concise explanation of differentiation and integration, beginning with the general principles of the differential, functions and their differentials, and higher-order differentials, and progressing to the general notion of the integral. Further chapters address practical methods such as rectifying curves, finding areas under curves, and calculating the surface area and volume of curved solids.

The work introduced one of the early structured presentations of calculus in Chinese and contributed to the formation of modern mathematical instruction in the late Qing.
